Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by her mother, her grandmother, as well as her godparents. Her father was absent from her family. When she was a infant, Ford struggled with anxious disorders, obsessive/compulsive and was afflicted by the word association. Ford was intrigued by the profession of acting in her teenage years and she became a member of the National Youth Theatre. The school she was accepted to was Sylvia Young Theatre School. However, after a short period of days, she realized that Sylvia Young Theatre School was not the right place right for her. Ford decided to apply instead to the Central School of Speech and Drama and eventually secured an interview on her fourth try. Shaun Dingwall was one of Ford's classmates. The actor was later to play recurring roles as Pete Tyler and Doctor Who. Ford completed her degree in 1993 however, by that time, she had already made her TV debut on a 1991 episode in the show Surgical Spirit; she adopted the professional name "Catherine Tate". During the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. The regular theatre work she performed brought her into the Royal Shakespeare Company, for the 2000-2001 Season. Tate was soon recognized for her stand-up comedies that were added to Tate's repertoire in 1996.
